How we select apps to feature in our guides
By The Voicetonotes.ai Team
We are here to help you find the best voice to text software and productivity tools to move your work forward.
While we build our own software, we know that one tool doesn't fit everyone. Here is a look at how we pick the products we feature in our "Best Apps" articles.
How we select and test apps
Before we select which apps we'll highlight, we define the category—for example, AI meeting assistants or offline dictation apps—and research which features most people find necessary for that specific job.
For voice-to-text apps, for example, we focus on accuracy across accents, background noise handling, privacy, and speed.
This feature list allows us to compare apps on an objective basis and narrow down the field (we always share these necessary features explicitly in our final reviews).
Then we do hours of research, looking for industry standards (like Dragon or Otter) and hidden gems on platforms like Product Hunt and developer forums.
We want to find the tools that are actually pushing the technology forward, not just the ones with the biggest marketing budgets.
We test like Builders, not just Users.
Since we are a software company, we test differently. We don't just read the marketing copy; we look "under the hood."
We do in-depth testing on every app we recommend. In our tests, we use each app just as a regular user might, but with a technical eye.
- Real-World Stress Tests: We test apps in noisy cafes, quiet offices, and while driving to see how the microphones and AI models handle real life.
- The Accent Test: We test with fast-paced speech and mixed languages (like Hinglish) to see if the AI breaks.
- Privacy Checks: We analyze data policies to see if an app trains on your voice data without permission.
If we run into issues, we contact support to test their responsiveness.
Once testing is complete, we select the best apps and write about them, noting exactly who they are best for—because a doctor needs a different tool than a student.
FAQs
Are you biased toward your own product, Voicetonotes.ai?
We built Voicetonotes.ai because we felt existing tools were either too expensive or too complicated. Naturally, we believe in our product and use it daily.
However, our goal with our content is Trust, not just Traffic. Many of the apps we review are direct competitors.
We include them because they are excellent tools. If a competitor offers a feature we don't (like offline mobile transcription), we explicitly recommend them for that use case.
We want you to find the tool that solves your problem, even if it isn't ours.
Do you accept paid placements or guest posts?
No.
- We never accept money to include an app in our articles.
- We do not accept guest posts or sponsored content from agencies.
- We do not sell links.
We are a SaaS company, not a generic marketing blog. Every app on our list is there because our internal team tested it and found it valuable. We value the trust readers put in us and always maintain our editorial integrity.
Why isn't X app included here?
There are times when we don't include an app because it didn't fit our criteria (e.g., poor accuracy or invasive data practices) or we had a poor user experience while testing.
Other times, it's an excellent app, but there's another app that better embodies the "best for" label for that specific category.
But also, oops. Though we typically spend weeks researching, the AI landscape changes daily. Please do let us know if you think we missed a tool that deserves to be tested.
How do I get my app included in your article?
Since we do not accept paid submissions or guest posts, the only way to get included is to build a great product. If you have built a unique speech-to-text tool, you can contact our support team. We will review it internally, and if it meets our quality standards, we may include it in a future update.
